Why was Veterans Healing Initiative (VHI) formed?

VHI was formed in response to the dramatic increase of substance abuse and mental health issues of returning US service men and women. Research revealed that there was a gap in available, appropriate treatment for substance abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for veterans. Hence, VHI was created to uncover and fund veteran specific, dual-diagnosis treatment programs throughout the United States.
