Roger Goodman
A veteran of ABC/Disney, innovation, invention and spectacle have been the earmarks of a career that has seen Roger Goodman direct or produce programming across news, sports and entertainment for over four decades. The only executive to have directed what is essentially the three penultimate genre events in television – The Academy Awards (in entertainment), The Olympic Games (in sports) and the major inaugurations, conventions and elections (in news), his remarkable career is also highlighted by his direction of the unprecedented two-hour Good Morning America live special from Vatican City, which included tours of the Vatican and a grand performance in the Basilica of St. Peter by the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by renowned maestro Gilbert Levine.
Goodman’s resume also includes every political convention, election or inauguration, breaking news and war coverage, town hall meetings from all over the world, the unprecedented 24-hour millennium program featuring over 400 cameras, ten Olympic Games, four Superbowl halftime shows, the Indianapolis 500, Kentucky Derby, Baseball, Football, Wide World of Sports and hundreds of other hours of Sports coverage. Pre shows for Primetime Emmys and Academy Awards, directed two Daytime Emmys, and this past year’s critically acclaimed 81st Annual Academy Awards.
In addition to his direction and production expertise, the multiple award-winning Roger Goodman has been instrumental in a number technological advances and industry firsts. Under his direction, successful transmissions of live programming from a submerged nuclear submarine; the aircraft carrier Enterprise, the largest endeavor ever attempted from a moving aircraft carrier at sea; and a week of live programming for Good Morning America from a fast moving eleven-car Amtrak train traveling throughout the North East. He has designed and built studios and sets ranging from the four-story Times Square Studios -- the home of Good Morning America -- to ABC’s ongoing news and magazine shows and specials. He was also responsible for the overall look and design of all of ABC News and has directed the development of ABC’s efforts in interactive, enhanced television, virtual-reality production sets and other integrated new media projects.
He is currently heading RG Productions, developed to work with media clients in all fields on program production and development.
